Traditional
wooden yachts:
These traditional
wooden yachts are built mainly in Bodrum and other parts of
Southwest Turkey. In the Northern Black Sea Region the boat yards
usually build fishing boats, but some beautiful traditional yachts
have been constructed recently. Local carpenters have handmade
these boats. They generally use pine or oak wood for the skeleton of
the boats, the skeleton cover is made of pine or tetra, the deck
teak, the cabins pine or mahagony, the masts white oak wood or iron.
These boats are both motor and sailing yachts. Yacht charters take
place on comfortable, locally built wooden yachts of several designs
and sizes:
Gullet:
The most popular
used traditional yacht for the 'Blue Cruise' is a Gulet. It is a
cruising yacht with a large, rounded stern area which is well-suited
for comfartable eating and lounging. Gullets usually have ketch
(marconi) or schooner-rigging, with one, two or three foresails.
Their lengths vary between 15 to 33 meters and they can accommodate
6 to 16 persons in 3 to 8 double bedded cabins with private shower
and WC.
Aynakic:
This is the
oldest type of local wooden boat with a pointed stern which is well
suited for sailing in the Aegean waters. Originally most had lateen
sails, now though the rigging varies from sloop to cutter to gaff.
They normally measure between 11 to 18 meters in length and can
accomodate 6 to 8 persons in 3 to 4 double bedded cabins with
private shower and WC.
Tirhandil:
It is the
oldest type of local wooden boat with a pointed stern which is
suited best for sailing in Aegean waters. Originally most had lateen
sails; now the rigging varies from sloop to cutter to gaff. They
normally measure between 11 to 18 meters in lenght and accommodate 6
to 8 persons in 3 to 4 double bedded cabins with private shower and

Modern yachts
These are made
of fiberglass or steel. Modern yachts are chartered either with crew
or without crew.
Sail Yacht:
These are
prefered by licensed sailors who want to find their own route on the
sea. They are usually chartered without a crew but are still
provided with all the local navigational information and equipment.
For those who do not have a licence, we can provide a skipper.
In Turkey Beneteau, Bavaria and Dehler are models of sailing
yachts chartered in several designs and sizes.
Motorlu yacht:
When time and
speed matters the best choice may be a motor yacht. They are usually
double engined for cruising at a higher speeds to extend the
cruising distance. Motor yachts are equipped with modern
navigational systems. It has a raised, squared-off stern that allows
space for additional cabins below compared to a gulet. There may be
a large master cabin at the stern. They can accommodate 8 to 24
persons in 4 to 12 double bedded cabins with private shower and WC.
Mostly they come with a ketch (marconi)-rigging and measure 18 to 33
meters. They are generally available for charter with a crew
although guests who have a valid international licence may hire a
motor yacht without a crew.
