The
crafts we use today are a modern motorised version of a Gulet. A Gulet
is a wooden sailing vessel, used in ancient times as a cargo bearing
craft for trading along the coast of Turkey. The original design has
evolved into a comfortable cruising vessel, some have air-conditioned
accommodation for up to eighteen guests in self-contained double cabins.
Just outside of Bodrum is Içmeler, where you find Europe's largest
ship-yard for building wooden yachts. An eighteen meter Gulet can be
built from scratch in eight to twelve months. Since the time of King
Mausolos, Bodrum has been an important center for boat building. The
Egyptian, Ptolemäus had his warships made here in 300 BC.
The
cabins usually accomodate 2 people (double beds, not twin beds). All of
the cabins have enough storage room for your belongings. Each cabin has
a separate toilet with wash basin and shower providing modern facilities
and privacy. The gulet offers enough space for our guests in their
cabins, the aisles and up on the deck.
Gulets
are traditional boats of Southwestern Turkey. In general, gulets can
range between 14 and 35 meters (52- 110 feet) in length, hence varying
in their guest capacity.
In many ways a Gulet is like a full service hotel where every room has a
sea view and the scenery changes constantly!
